Champions League. Matchday 2. Review of Day 2.

We begin our review of day 2 with Group C, where the newcomers FC Astana hosted Galatasaray. A sold out stadium wintesses three own goals in the last 15 minutes of the game as Astana came back to tie the game twice and get their first point ever in the Champions League. The game ended with a 2:2 draw. Looks like it will be an uphill battle for both of these teams in the group as Benfica and Atletico Madrid look to be the dominant teams of the group. They played each other in Madrid on Wednesday where Benfica was able to overturn the 1:0 deficit to win the game 2:1 in the end. Another surprise result in group C.

Group A featured two goals by Ronaldo in Real Madrid's 2:0 away win over Malmo in Sweden. These were goals number 500 and 501 in Ronaldo's impressive career. Also in that group Paris Saint-Germain were able to overcome Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine with a final score of 0:3. After two matchdays it looks like this group is already decided, with Real and PSG likely progressing to the playoffs and Shakhtar and Malmo battling it out for the third place and a chance to compete in the Europa League playoffs in the spring.

In Group B CSKA hosted PSV and were up 3:0 at halftime, also having Doumbia miss a penalty kick closer to the end of the first half to make it a four goal lead. This miss almost cost them the win in the end when PSV surged in the second half to make the score 3:2. CSKA ended up getting the three points here. Manchester United were able to come back at home against Wolfsburg. The German team went ahead 1:0, but goals by Mata and Smalling ensured the first United win of this compaign.

Champions League. Matchday 2. Review of Day 2.
Group B may very well be the most interesting and unpredictable group with all three teams level on three points after Matchday 2. Man United travel to CSKA next and Wolfsburg host PSV on October 21st.

Group D is another unpredictable group with all teams capable of taking points from one another. Juventus overcame Sevilla at home with a final score of 2:0 and Borussia Monchengladbach were unable to hold a 1:0 lead and lost 2:1 in the end to Manchester City. This was a game of many missed opportunities, especially by the hosts. They next travel to Turin to face Juventus while Man City will host Sevilla.
